Just like Keith … but older and probably with different politics

Keith is the eponymous antagonist in the song by Playlunch. Keith is angry about many things, notably in this instance, people who park their cars on the street in front of his house. While I don’t share Keith’s belief in the private appropriation of public spaces, I do understand the desire to rail viscerally against the things that ail us.

There is a lot to rail against. Why is politics so bad? Why is Australia’s ambition for itself so small? Why is it ok that the present is so bleak for so many and could be worse for those still to come?

To ask questions like these is not to hate Australia. It is to want a better future, where rhetoric and reality align, where everyone has an opportunity to flourish, in ways that matter to them, as long as this doesn’t harm others. This includes parking your car on the street in front of Keith’s house.

Keith is very angry, but Playlunch don’t seem to be. They understand that a good melody, a memorable riff, acute social observation, and a bunch of guys nice people cross the road to avoid, is a winning combination. Listen to Keith (the song, not the ranter). If you like it, you may like this. If not, probably look elsewhere.
